Since 2022, YKAN has initiated a program that combines mangrove restoration efforts with sustainable shrimp farming practices. The Shrimp-Carbon Aquaculture (SECURE) approach, part of the Mangrove Sahabat Tambak Lestari (MESTI) program, is being implemented with support from the Berau District Government and donor partners, particularly in Pegat Batumbuk Village, Berau Regency, East Kalimantan.

Through SECURE, it is hoped that 80% of shrimp farm areas can be restored to mangrove forests while maintaining production levels equivalent to 100% land use for shrimp farming. Additionally, the MESTI program provides capacity development in business and management to farmers, enabling them to enhance the value of their aquaculture products.
In August, the giant shrimp harvest in Pegat Batumbuk Village showed an increase in productivity. Abdurahman, one of the farmers involved in the program, shared that his harvest used to be around 3.5 kg, but it has gradually increased to 9 kg, 35 kg, and this year reached 50 kg.
