YKAN facilitates technical support for the application of social forestry permits and strengthening social forestry management institutions. As of June 2021, social forestry permits had been granted for a total area of 193,000 hectares in East Kalimantan.
A quick study by YKAN in 2019 showed that from analyses done in 15 villages, most (73%) of them demonstrated decreasing deforestation rates. In 2020, three villages that demonstrated great performances in reducing deforestation rates were given incentives for the proposed development of social forestry business.
